And when I say fuckery, I mean Cops. Bikers. Arrests. Addictions. A surveillance operation by Toronto's Major Crime Squad and a SWAT raid that made the news.

At the time, it felt like living. I knew somewhere it had to stop — and eventually it did. That was 17 years ago. These days, I meditate for over two hours a day. Rarely missing.

For years, I lived in the strange corners of human behaviour.

I interviewed hundreds of people — internationally known celebrities, the average Jane and Joe, and everyone, the polite (and impolite) world has to offer.

I roamed the corridors of the best and worst strip clubs around.

I sat in the corners of bars with bikers, criminals, prostitutes, pimps, and addicts of every variety; most of them very nice people struggling to find their place in the world—just like me.

And along the way, I discovered (that somehow) people always liked me.

Which meant they talked to me.

And when people talk long enough, you begin to notice something. Most of us are just trying to figure out how to be human.

Messy, confused, hopeful, scared humans — doing the best we can with what we've got.

I was one of them. Figuring it out the hard way.

Eventually, the bill for all that chaos came due.

So I started doing something different. I went California Sober.

Cal·i·for·nia so·ber /adjective, informal Sobriety with a few negotiated terms and conditions (aka occasional cannabis)

Today, I'm Clear-headed. Open-hearted. Strong-willed.

For the past sixteen years, I've been deeply committed to meditation, mindfulness, and the uncomfortable lifelong project of becoming a better human—always expanding, always learning, and forever open-minded.

It's not glamorous. It's not linear. But it's the most interesting thing I've ever done.

And buried inside all that chaos — the arrests, the addictions, the strange rooms full of stranger people — were lessons.

Lessons about communication. About connection. About the ways our attention, our tone, and our words shape absolutely everything.

It starts with Emotional Intelligence.

Where listening becomes effortless because you're finally present enough to hear what's actually being said.

Where your words land differently because they're coming from somewhere real.

I've been relatively quiet for quite some time, giving my valued attention to my Self and the close ones that are dearest to my heart.

And I'm finally ready to share my story and the lessons I've learned.

The messy, uncomfortable, occasionally hilarious journey through the parts of humanity most people try very hard to avoid.

I'm glad you stopped by. Truly honoured.

Let's make your next conversation more memorable.

A NOTE BEFORE YOU READ

Everything you're about to read is true.

I cleaned my act up a while ago.

These stories are funny in hindsight — but they nearly killed me. I was one of the lucky ones.

I don't recommend the lifestyle. Not even a little.
